Key Aspects Of Integrative Mental Wellness
Caring for your mental health is so much more than just “trying to feel positive” or taking antidepressants. With current medical research, we have discovered that the body is a complex collection of organs and systems and even bacterial colonies (the microbiome) that greatly impact the brain and can create symptoms that we don’t normally associate with these physical imbalances.
While the standard of care hasn’t quite “caught up” yet with most of the current science, conventional psychiatry is still treating the brain separately – without taking into account the fact that all the areas of the body greatly impact each other.
When you are healthy, they work together like a symphony in perfect harmony – and you have vibrant health including good brain health. But when one of these systems is off-balance, the whole symphony is out of tune! When you need a “tune-up” so to speak, not only do you need to look at areas that aren’t working right but recognize the red flags could be telling you something more serious is going on. Mental health symptoms can be the warning flag that something is off not only with your brain but with your overall health.
Sadly, most clients instead receive medications to treat symptoms associated with poor brain function like low neurotransmitters – when all too often, it’s a systemic issue that needs to be treated in a completely different way, mind, body, and soul.
In addition, the integrative mental wellness approach considers that each person is born with unique health needs based on their genetic factors, the environment they were born into, what kinds of bacteria populate their gut, as well as what situations they are exposed to as they grow – each person’s body has a very unique health profile which means they need an equally unique healing protocol.
I’ve seen people go from doctor to doctor and never finding the solutions they are looking for and they sense there is a better way to approach their mental wellbeing. Once we start work, it can be surprising for most people because they aren’t used to this kind of in depth, personalized care, and yet they finally understand why they could never break free from their constant feelings of stress and mental health red flags.
At Empowered Wellness Coaching, we follow an integrative approach that is uniquely equipped to give you the support you need to resolve mental health issues and better manage the stressors that can reactivate them.
This in-depth approach is the only successful way of treating chronic mental health symptoms because most chronic illnesses (including mental illnesses) have many causes, brought on by modern lifestyle choices.
Instead of simply addressing different symptoms across separate areas, we seek to treat the underlying root cause – while looking at lifestyle factors such as diet, environment, emotional health, and mindset that usually brings on the illness clients are seeking to heal.
